Okay, holy jesus. As some of you know quite well I love Law & Order. I think it's one of the most consistently entertaining TV shows out there. A lot of people don't like it, the formula doesn't work for them, or the formulaic nature of the show doesn't work for them. That's fine, I can respect that. I don't really love Raymond, as much as CBS feels I do. That said, I'm starting to think that one of the Law & Order spinoffs it's actually a form of concentrated evil. Specifically SVU (Special Victims Unit) seems to, every time I wtch it, horrify and disgust me somehow. Tonight's episode was about the rape of a nine year old girl. Turns out some teenager did it. Oh, yeah, he had already raped and murdered another little girl and used her body to threaten the victim on the show. Seriously, what the fuck, guys? All the while the show was documenting how this nine year old was so terrified that she named an innocent man as her rapist and managed to ruin his life. This show just does not believe in happy endings. Even they catch the perp and put him away the damage dealt out is just enormous. I guess in some ways this is a pretty honest show, since the kind of damage that rapists and stuff deal out is indeed absurd, but man, seeing it portrayed on TV is horribly disheartening.
